What does SAJES stand for?
SAJES stands for enhancing Jewish lives through excitement and creativity in Jewish learning.
We were founded in 1982 as a grassroots organization in Suffolk County, Long Island seeking to address a specific, local need - a shortage of teachers for its congregational schools. SAJES was originally an acronym for Suffolk Association for Jewish Educational Services. We are now a full-service "central agency for Jewish education," addressing the broad range of challenges facing Jewish learning in the 21st century. The scope of our programs and our service area has extended to Long Island, New York and beyond. SAJES is no longer an acronym; it's our name. You can learn more by clicking About SAJES .
What is a central agency for Jewish education?
A central agency for Jewish education is a valued community resource that provides an array of educational services to Jewish schools, congregations, community centers, organizations and families in their catchment area. You can learn more about the network of central agencies around the country by logging onto JESNA.
