On April 3, 2008, almost 300 early childhood educators from 17 schools on Long Island attended the SAJES 6th Annual Simchat Morim! Celebration of Jewish Early childhood Educators Professional Day. The event was held at Dix Hills Jewish Center.
Keynote speaker Syd Mandelbaum of Long Island’s “Rock and Wrap It Up” the anti-poverty volunteer group and think-tank inspired the group with a charge to educate the “small soldiers of the fortunate” to begin to care about the world at an early age.
Conference attendees had a large variety of workshop choices including such varied topics as yoga, recognizing emotional abuse, Jewish music for early childhood and sixty ways to integrate Israel into a classroom. There was also time to network and shop at participating vendors from educational companies, booksellers and craft specialists such as feltsongs.com providing the latest in early childhood materials.
The “renewed” educators left excited to get back to school and use their newly acquired knowledge and skills. They shared that they will be able to use and integrate the day’s learning to enhance the experiences of their students.
All were already looking forward to the 7th annual Simchat Morim – to be held on March 19, 2009.
