SAJES recognizes that youth workers and informal Jewish educators are an important constituency of the Jewish educational community - professionals who impact a key segment of the Jewish population – our teens. Through ongoing professional learning and networking, youth workers are able to grow both personally and professionally, significantly increasing the positive impact on their teens and on their programs.
The SAJES Teen Department offers professional learning and networking opportunities to youth directors, youth workers, educators, lay leaders and all who work with Jewish teens. The department:
- hosts the annual "Atideynu" conference.
- hosts quarterly professional learning and networking meetings for local youth advisors and directors.
- facilitates planning and networking meetings for youth directors across Long Island and from all teen organizations and denominations.
- facilitates the Jewish Teen Leadership Council.
- hosts a listserv connecting youth chairs from across Long Island.
- hosts www.jteen.org, a website with resources for youth workers and teens.
NEW this year! The Informal Jewish Educators Seminar, a series of eight professional learning workshops for everyone who works with Jewish teenagers in a youth group, Jewish Community Center or camp setting. Click here to download a pdf.
NEW this year! The Youth Chairs Network - This group of lay leaders and volunteers from synagogues and JCCs convene several times a year to network, gain knowledge in supervision and learn how best to partner with their Youth Directors to create the best possible programs for teens in their institutions. They also learn to become more effective advocates for teens and the youth programs they represent.
